Uncle Willie passes on

Uncle Willie’s death has left a void in the community.

The DA Ward 57 Joburg South constituency would like to pay tribute to Uncle William Jacobs, known to all as Uncle Willie, who passed away on April 11 due to ill health.

Uncle Willie was known for his selfless dedication to the retirement villages and the community. He was a tenant at the Moffat View Village for many years.

He was no ordinary resident. When new tenants moved in, he always welcomed them to the village. In most cases, the elderly would move in with hardly any furniture, only a suitcase of clothing. He always asked people for spare furniture to help the new tenants.

He was in charge of many soup kitchens and food parcel distributions and ensured organisations around Joburg visited the village.

At one stage, he was part of the village’s maintenance team, but that was when his health started to deteriorate.

There is so much to say about this trooper who left a legacy not only for the village people but also for his political home, the DA. Uncle Willie joined the DA many years ago and was a champion in politics.

He left a huge void in the political arena. The DA sends condolences to the Jacobs family and everyone who knew him.

May his soul rest in peace.

Clr Faeeza Chame, Ward 57
