AS the year starts I would like to thank our parents for sending their little ones to school for the first time because the best gift a parent can give a child is education.
Thank you also to our educators for returning to school and showing commitment. When visiting a few schools in the area on the first day (January 13) I saw lots of tears of joy from parents and some learners also had tears, but that was tears of not knowing what the day will bring and just the thought of them being with strangers.
My advice to the Grade Ones is to focus and learn, this is a new chapter in your lives that will only end in 2026; always remember you are the future leaders of this beautiful country that we live in and that you can, you must and you will.
It was confirmed that the schools did not experience a lot of obstacles this year and there were few children that were referred to the department due to late registrations. When visiting Regents Park Primary School the principal confirmed that about 200 new Grade Ones enrolled for 2016.
I would like to urge parents if they have good school uniforms and school shoes which they no longer have a use for, to please pass it on to the school or to the needy.
