On August 7, law enforcement agencies gathered outside the Johannesburg Central Police Station for a night vigil to pay respect to our fallen heroes.

We all lit candles and held posters with the message: Stop cop killings.

This comes in the wake of the increasing number of police officers who have been killed in the line of duty. So far, from the beginning of 2015, about 50 police officers have been killed. The National Police Commissioner General Riah Phiyega condemned the killings.

I would like to encourage the community to work with the police and your local CPF, including your neighbourhood watch.

Please be vigilant and take note of the strangers around your neighbourhood. If something don’t look right, please inform your nearest police station.

I strongly believe if you take a life you must pay the price. One cop killer one life sentence.
