Hundreds of ANC members attended a funeral of the late Mrs Granny Orbetha Zondo, who was buried in the Lenasia Cemetary on Saturday April 25.

MaZondo, as she was affectionally known, lived in Booysens. She died on April 17, after a long illness. She was an active member of the ANC Women’s League and a member of ANC Ward 124 of Johannesburg South.

A memorial service was held at the Reuven Complex Communal Hall on Wednesday April 22, where Programme Director Mr Sydney Marope called a number of representatives from SANCO, SACP, Woman’s and Youth League to pay tribute on behalf of their organisations.

Ward 124 Councillor Sidney Radebe, said Cde MaZondo, will be deeply missed: “She was such an active and a committed member and always passionate about the elderly, the poor and the destitute, always serving them with so much love and devotion.”

Paying tribute on behalf of the ANC Women’s League, Annie Magano said the League mourns the passing of Cde MaZondo and wishes to celebrate her life, because of the remarkable contribution she made in the organisation and the ANC Ward 124 and the community of Booysens.

“We salute you Cde Ma Zondo, for your dedication to the entire organisation, even sometimes under severe and difficult conditions; you never lost courage but persevered, despite your ill-health you still endured and continued with the work you were so passionate about. The ANCWL wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, we all miss you dearly,” said Magano.
