Most of us are greatly relieved, now that the postal strike has ended, although it seems that the union and their members are not satisfied with the conditions of the settlement. However, we pray that the strike does not flare up again.

I have a post box at the Southdale Post Office and it costs me R399 every year to renew my registration. The post office was not operational for nearly four months, and after the strike ended, it took the workers weeks to sort out the piles of accumulated mail.

As users of the postal boxes, why must we pay for 12 months when the post office was not operational for nearly four months. It is grossly unfair. Our annual renewal fee is R399 or R33.25 per month. If the four months are deducted than we should only pay R266, which is for a period of eight months.

This is not the first time that the postal workers goes on strike. The users paid the full renewal fee without complaining, In view of the high cost of living, many find it difficult to make ends meet, and we humbly request the postal authorities to treat their clients with fairness. We are the clients that keep the postal services operational.
