The centre in North Road, Regents Park has stood for many years.

It is a multiracial residence and facility for the mentally challenged adult. Those of you with mentally disabled children or relatives will know what a heartache it is to get these adults into any facility. The adults spend their time assembling and packaging goods for the likes of Dis-Chem, Lesco and some others. Contracts are always needed.

Those that are not able to be in the workshop spend their days being looked after by the staff in the stimulation centre.

Just recently I learned of the cut in subsidies by the government to these facilities.

One wonders what our member of parliament for the disabled is doing about this.

The point being that you need a special type of person to look after these adults.

You have to maintain vehicles to fetch and carry the adults. You need drivers. You need to feed residents. Pay water and lights. The cutting of funds means the cutting of staff and everything else. I have managed to get a wish list, so if you can help or are throwing any of these items away, can you please contact Anusha at 011 613 8121.

Items needed are pencils, paper, crayons, pencil crayons, sharpeners, staplers, punchers, paper, scissors, cardboard, paint, paint brushes, aprons, assorted reading books, puzzles, balls of all sizes, hula hoops, bean bags, pool noodles, building blocks, skittles, plastic containers big and small, garden furniture, weights, free standing volley ball, bath towels, hand towels and non-slip bath/toilet mats.
