Crime is now the norm in Alveda Park

"The Mondeor Police Station is useless"

These days when you hear a phone ringing or a message coming at 02:00 in the morning, the first question to pop into your mind is where did they break in again?

It now seems to be the norm in Alveda Park that every morning when you wake up, there was a break-in somewhere around the area.

The funny thing is that these things happened at almost the same time, between 02:00 and 04:00, and whoever is doing this is using the same method to break into houses.

They either break the burglarproof door and the door or they open the window, breaking the burglar bars and entering the house.

I am writing this frustrated by the Mondeor Police. Criminals are only interested in plasma or LCD televisions.

It is now two weeks since criminals started on their mission. I am saying two weeks, because it started at my house and thereafter they never stopped. Cases have been opened at the Mondeor Police, which to me is the most useless police station I have ever known.

Why am I saying Mondeor Police is useless:

1. When cases are reported to them, you will not get an update unless you follow up yourself.

2. As residents we have been patrolling, but we only see the police when they are called to an incident

3. When you call their patrol car, it takes them one to two hours to respond to the call.

4. They always make excuses that they only have two cars for Alveda Park .

5. They receive similar cases from the same area, but you cannot see them patrolling, not even for an hour.

6. They come to your place and ask if you have insurance, what does that have to do with them doing their job? They act as if they are insurance brokers. They always tell people to insure their valuables. This is an insult to us, they want to blame their incompetence on the community. We are not that stupid, we know we deserve protection.

Logic tells me that the Mondeor Police is not taking the community of Aveda Park serious. We have previously requested a meeting with them and the station commander, who is always busy to service the community of Alveda Park. I believe that when he is called by CPF, which claim to have the interest of the Communities in the South, he rushes to them.

I believe the Station Commander owes the community of Alveda Park an explanation as to why is it that our protection is not a priority for him.

You cannot get almost 10, if not more, of similar cases from one area and mainly from one street and not prioritise that area.

I am not saying we should be treated special, but the Station Commander and his police officers are treating us like we are from another planet. Maybe we do not exist.

Mondeor Police Comment:

A meeting between Mondeor SAPS and the community of Alveda was held on Wednesday June 18 and Sunday June 22.

Although the SAPS is policing the area of Alveda Park, more stops and searches will be done.

The sector forum will invite security companies to a meetings where crime will be discussed.

The office of the Station Commander still believes that all communities are served equally, and there is a plea to communities to expose criminal elements in their midst.
