Keep wildlife alive

I would like to make readers aware of the plight of a colony of rock hyrax (dassies) in the Linmeyer area, on the koppie above the old scout hall in Sophie Avenue.

LINMEYER – I regularly remove snares set by vagrants. I have been watching and feeding this colony for years and to see the continuing onslaught against them is heart breaking. I also remove illegally dumped rubbish as often as possible.

I appeal to all Linmeyer residents to adopt these dassies as well as the yellow mongoose, guinea fowl, spotted dikkops and owls, and actively involve yourselves in observing/ hiking / walking your dogs and cleaning up, etc.

Please report suspicious vagrant activity and illegal dumping to the Linmeyer awareness group or Moffatview SAPS. Our wildlife and environment needs our help before it’s too late.

So come on people, let’s get involved to preserve and enjoy the beauty of our suburb. Anybody interested can contact me 082 854 6687
