Normally when we are gearing up for Elections there is a hub of activity, i.e. grass being cut, lanes being cleaned, children’s parks being cleaned etc, when there is still time, and then bang, back to normal. The South is a disgrace and yes the council must be at its wits end battling the filth and illegal dumping. However, dropping off recycling bags is not the answer, how about more dustbins per household? The country has changed, times have changed, culturally a lot has changed, so move with the changes for goodness sake.

One house can have up to 10 residents, because the house is sub-divided into rooms and let, so how on earth does the council think one dustbin is going to suffice in terms of garbage? Treat the house the same you would flats, and just then maybe, a small maybe I know, but the dumping and filth may reduce.

Every ward coucillor and every boss working for the municipality should be ashamed of themselves to allow the area to get so out of control. More than five years ago the people appealed to have the services lanes gated up, the council wasn’t interested in even assisting on a way forward, now the service lanes are so heaped with filth, dead babies are left in them.

Shocking… Southdale Depo has lost the plot since certain managers have retired. We have not seen a service truck cleaning the service lanes or a lawn mower in the Turffontein area upwards this entire summer!
