RUEVEN – Eurolux visited the senior complex of Reuven and will be making a difference to their home, caring that our seniors get proper care and treated with dignity! They will be replacing all the outside building lights to ensure that we have working lights for the seniors with day-night sensors so we can save electricity and to ensure that the seniors do not get hurt when they need to go for an early evening stroll before retiring for the night. They will also be replacing globes that need replacement.

From September 3 last year when Sue Lubbe and friends got involved with the home, we have assisted with food donated by Woolworths and taken many items of clothing to the home. We have also given four flats a coat of paint. We will be assisting and cleaning up more in the near future with the help of a private college from Pretoria that really care.

Our party for the seniors on December 24 was a stunning success with gifts for each senior, a really good meal, the residents were asked to bring their plates and they could take home the food that they did not finish that evening or for Christmas day. There was dancing by professional ball room dancers and a magician and just so much more.

Some sponsors paid for groceries, donated various items and we purchased toiletries. Each resident who was at the home on the day were offered a parcel of groceries or a parcel or toiletries with items of clothing that was also donated. We even had a couple from the Netherlands who assisted the seniors by helping them find the right size clothing etc.

Our seniors, many of whom cannot afford to survive without the assistance face a gloomy future if we do not assist. The rent has gone up by double the amount; the electricity takes a huge cut of their pensions, milk and bread purchased daily could leave the seniors without money for groceries and the necessary fruit and vegetables. A special thank you to Woolworths for their input.

We appeal to the companies to come forward and work with our group to ensure the products donated to the homes go where they should and we get the seniors to sign for their parcels to ensure that everyone gets and no one is forgotten.

This year will be a tough one. You can assist by donating groceries, food parcels, clothing, linen etc. that you no longer use at home, arrange for seniors to be taken to hospitals and collected at the end of the day. And as we know at the end of our summer we get cold weather that sees more seniors getting ill with flu, needing blankets, warm clothing and maybe a treat or two like Milo and rusks. Cup a soups is a blessing for the seniors.

Please help us look after our needy seniors. Any plumbing companies or electrical companies that can help us replace geysers? We have crises at the home and geysers to be replaced. Please discuss with us. Our seniors deserve a warm bath or shower in winter.

Have a blessed 2014 and may all our dreams come true, if you can dream it you can make it happen!
