KENILWORTH – Today my plan was to talk to you about how grateful we need to be for surviving the first year of high school, but it has changed.

As our nation and the rest of the world mourn the death of our dearest Tata Madiba, I would like us to remember him and cherish his words of motivation, love, kindness, peace and humanity. Not too long ago I wrote about the hope and spirit Mr Nelson Mandela has given our generation, and all the beautiful things we can do with his teachings. Today I feel sad knowing that the great soldier who made me feel so special and gave me the courage to want to be the best I can be, is gone.

At the same time I know that he gave us, the youth of today, the greatest gift in the world, the right to freedom and education, and that brings a smile to my face. And it’s because of this gift that I feel like I have to celebrate his life and I have to give back. I have to do something that will make a difference in someone’s life as well as my own. I may not be able to change the way leaders rule or think, I may not be able to guide a country nor be a shadow of great leadership, but I can study hard, and through education, like Tata Madiba did, add value to what happens to the future of my South Africa. I challenge every teenager who reads this article to make a promise that through education we will live Tata’s legacy and make this a life worth living. I leave you with a famous quote from our beloved Tata, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Tata Madiba, you have inspired me as well as millions of other teenagers and kids around the world. I thank you on behalf of every child for giving us wings and allowing us to fly. May your soul rest in peace and know that we will always love you.

Until next time

Stay Motivated
