The Bag Lady

I personally love roses, but would never expect my husband to pay the exorbitant prices for flowers on Valentine’s Day.

February is the month of love, with Valentine’s Day (February 14) falling on a Thursday this year.

If you are planning to surprise your loved one with a romantic dinner, I’d advise you to book now. Restaurants tend to be a popular treat for Valentine’s Day and will get booked up quickly.

Alternatively, if you can’t really afford dinner out, don’t stress. Buy a few delicious snacks (chicken or beef kebabs, paté and breadsticks/crackers/ciabatta bread, an assortment of cheeses, grapes and for dessert chocolates! Couldn’t be easier, add a bottle of bubbly, candles and create your own romantic evening at home.

I see Woolworths already has its Valentine’s goodies in stores, and you’ll even find a few “sweet” treats for under R20. Now, that’s a bargain!

For the woman in your life

At Woolworths, tantalising lingerie, slinky sleepwear, fragrances, fashion jewellery, handbags, gorgeous linen (Love Petal Duvet Cover set), plants and flowers, as well as heart-decorated coffee mugs, planters and Love scatter cushions.

For the man in your life

Boxers, slippers, sleepwear, aftershaves, watches, wallets, grooming gifts, braai tools and gadgets.

I personally love roses, but would never expect my husband to pay the exorbitant prices of flowers on Valentine’s Day. It’s just ridiculous! Unless, of course, you are loaded and wish to express your love, and let’s be honest what woman wouldn’t love receiving a huge bouquet at her office.

You’ll also find all major stores are stocking Valentine goodies, including chocolates, coffee mugs, red silk roses and other enticing things.

I always feel love should be given all the time, but I guess one day a year to go the extra mile with a few little spoils will be love-ly.

What’s new?

MRP Home at Mall of the South has moved to bigger and better premises and now has a kids section. Previously this section was only incorporated at Alberton City and The Glen Shopping Centre MRP Home stores.

Keep a look out at Checkers for the Limited Addition Range, which includes artisanal-inspired cordials, a brandy and cola braai sauce, coconut and cranberry biscuits and three different mocktail mixes.

Enjoy a crisp green salad with Basil Flavoured Croutons (60g) R19, 99, from Woolworths.
