The Bag Lady

Sad that most children of today will never be able to enjoy such simple pleasures as picking fruit and playing outside with their friends.

As we bid January farewell and welcome February, that’s one month done and dusted! Time waits for no man and there’s nothing truer than this. I remember my mum and dad telling me, “As you get older time goes quicker,” and it certainly seems to.

The long summer holidays from school when I lived in England used to go on and on and I thought it would never end. It was usually six weeks and then was a time when children could go out in the morning to be with friends, yes, in the streets, fields, woods, you name we did it, until much later in the day or we were hungry, in which case we returned home earlier!

I remember picking blackberries, buckets full from the hedgerows in the lanes and my mum making blackberry jam and apple and blackberry pie, which we had with lashings of thick fresh cream or warm creamy custard! Yes, life was certainly less hectic then in many ways. Sad that children of today will never be able to enjoy such simple pleasures.

What a difference a week makes

Well, browsing the stores this last week I was blown away by the gorgeous clothing I saw, when only last week I mentioned in my column clothes being drab and boring.

Most stores have obviously had deliveries of new stock and I hasten to add, clothing for cooler days is creeping in! Some gorgeous styles of dresses, tops and jackets with coral remaining a firm favourite colour with shades of ochre, blue and moss green coming in. Dusky pink looks like it’s going to be a “hot” colour for autumn. Once again Poetry and Forever New were at the top, with Woolworths following close behind with some of their stylish blouses and tops and H&M have a few nice lines. Woolworths also has some boots already in stock.

I always feel uncomfortable trying on clothing for winter while temperatures are soaring in the 30s but hey, I say make hay while the sun shines!

Welcome back Kim

For those of you who used to dine or still do at Thaba Eco Hotel’s Kraal Restaurant and enjoyed seeing hospitable Kim le Roux in and around the restaurant, guess what, she’s back!

Kim went off on a little adventure to the UK, decided it wasn’t really for her and has returned to sunny SA and is back in her position at the Kraal Restaurant. Kim was well-loved by many customers with her professional and friendly manner and always had a lovely smile for everyone.

The Kraal Restaurant provides a warm atmosphere to unwind and enjoy the finer things in life – superb food and wine, delightful desserts and rich aromatic coffee.

Their executive chef and his team satisfy the most discerning of palates with their wide variety of dishes on the separate menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Kraal Restaurant is also renowned for their splendid breakfast buffet which includes continental and full English breakfasts.

Seating is available indoors and outdoors on the front and back decks, as well as in the garden area where children have access to the fun-filled Kiddies Outdoor Play Area and equipment.

“It’s great to be back and I look forward to seeing all the regular faces back at Kraal Restaurant, as well as welcoming new faces,” added Kim.
