The bag lady

Such a crazy hectic week but hey, it's only just over 10 weeks to Christmas!

Life has been pretty hectic these last few months and quite honestly I haven’t had that much time for shopping, apart, obviously, from food and essentials. Last week though I had a browse around and one new store at The Glen Shopping Centre is a must “pop in”. Miniso, wow, wow and wow!

What struck me right away was the open and bright store. It just about grabs you and drags you in. Not that I need much dragging into a shop, but boy, I was impressed.

A store stocked with household and consumer products for the entire family to enjoy. Babies – baby goods and soft toys; Youngsters – Pink Panther goods, toys that teach, school stationery, summer sandals and flip-flops and backpacks; Women – facial cleanser’s, make-up, nail varnish, makeup bags, handbags, diffusers, scents, summer flip-flops, sunglasses, T-shirts, travel packs and for men – toiletry products, T-shirts and much more.

Household and family – Gadgets, digital accessories, earphones, luggage, travelling neck cushions, car purifiers, water bottles, storage boxes and much, much more.

Definitely worth a visit and a store which will beckon you back for more.

Pensioners – enjoy yourselves for less

The Green Craft Bar, which is situated next door to Glenvista Country Club, Vorster Avenue, Glenvista (same secure car park), is offering pensioners a fabulous deal with 15 per cent off your total bill (food and drink) every Wednesday from 12pm to 5pm. Now, what’s not to like about that? Meet up with friends or family and enjoy a delicious lunch with drinks, while taking time out in this relaxing setting with a gorgeous view. Go on then, arrange a lunchtime gathering and see for yourselves. I can guarantee you’ll be back again.

Molly’s Speakeasy – worth the drive

A few weeks ago I happened to be in the village of Henley-on-Klip and came upon a stunning eatery, Molly’s Speakeasy, situated just off Ewelme Road, an easy drive from the South of Joburg and surrounds.

It had such a divine feel about it and is a century-old cottage, lovingly restored with a tranquil garden setting. Enjoy dinners and Sunday lunches, which are apparently legendary (bookings essential due to popularity).

Dine al fresco under the trees or in one of the two intimate dining rooms or sit over a quiet drink in the tiny pub with vintage books. It had such a warm and cosy atmosphere and the food was delicious, with personalised service. The chef even came out to greet us and shared a little of the history behind this gorgeous restaurant.

I can definitely see it becoming THE place for romantic lunches and dinners, an ideal get-away-from-it-all, or to celebrate small special occasions and business meetings. With the festive season virtually around the corner, I can honestly conjure up a beautiful Christmas setting, perfect for small year-end functions. And you all know how I just love Christmas.

DELIGHTFUL: A perfect setting for dining al fresco.

For those who wanted to extend their visit in Henley, there are a few quaint guesthouses in the village, perfect for a weekend away without a long drive.

Open: Wednesday to Friday 12 noon to 10pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 10pm. The kitchen closes on Sundays at 7pm, but that won’t stop you lingering over a cocktail or two. Phone 016 366 0368 to make a reservation.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
