The power of reason

Whatever the reason may be, it affects the quality of your life.

“The sciences are the ‘how’ and the humanities are the ‘why’ – why are we here, why do we believe in the things we believe in. I don’t think you can have the ‘how’ without the ‘why’.” – George Lucas

Ask yourself these following questions:

1. Why do I eat? (Is it because I have to. Is it because I love food? Is it because I need energy? Where does the energy in food come from? What kind of food gives me those nutrients?)

2. Why do I need to read? (Because they said it’s good for me. Because I have to? Because reading exercises my mental muscles which prevent and delay memory-loss and makes my brain function at its peak performance? Then what kind of reading and how must I read daily to achieve this? What exactly must I read?)

3. Why do I get into a relationship, social, professional or romantic? (Is it because I just love a person? Is it just to have company because I am lonely? Is it to have money and security?)

4. Why do I pray? (For God to answer my prayers? For mental strength and faith? To ask God to do something for me?)

5. Why do you go to school? (Is it because you have to? Is it to be employable? Is it to discover your strengths?)

Whatever the reasons for these questions may be, it affects the quality of your life. Take this time and honestly ask yourself in silence while you are alone as to why you do what you do and write the answers down. You will be surprised at what you find. How you live your life is based on the why, not the happenings.

It’s so easy to get lost in the ‘how’ and lose the reason ‘why’ you are doing whatever you are doing.
