The Bag Lady

I went to La Belle Vie coffee shop last week. What a treat!

Eight weeks to Christmas and counting! Woolworths has festive stock in-store and other shops will be following soon. I’ve spotted Across the Miles Christmas cards at PNA and Cardies at Mall of the South, as well as calendars which will be great for sending to overseas family and friends. The last date to post overseas to UK for Christmas is October 31.

As much as I love sending Christmas cards I’ve cut back over the past few years, it’s costly and quite honestly our postal service is not great. By the time you’ve bought the special card, which is at least R25 and then the postage, also over R25, you are paying over R50 per card! Then take into account it may never reach its destination, it is such a waste of money. Lucky me, I’ve a friend coming here in November from England, so she has said she’ll take all my Christmas cards this year for close family and friends and either hand deliver them or post locally.

La Belle Vie

A coffee shop has opened in Bazinga on Penzance, 14 Penzance Street, New Redruth, opposite General Alberts Primary School with a French factory theme. Owned by Stephen and Lorinda Hanscombe, La Belle Vie opened earlier this year and is proving to be a popular choice for breakfasts and lunches as well as toasted sandwiches including bacon, brie and cranberry, delish! Homemade burgers, homemade pies, salads and cakes and desserts to die for! We enjoyed a traditional tarte flambee , the French version of pizza, with fromage blanc, smoked bacon, mushrooms, onion and topped with rocket and finished with a deliciously moist and nutty carrot cake. Their milkshakes are somewhat different flavours, vanilla and rose, chilli chocolate, peanut butter and banana and strawberry and mint, to name a few.

Open Monday to Saturday 7am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 2pm. Pensioners receive a 10 per cent discount Monday to Thursday. Baby showers, birthday parties, and other smaller events catered for. Presently La Belle Vie doesn’t have a liquor licence but you are welcome to bring a bottle of wine and no corkage will be charged. There is also a take away menu, so no-one will miss out. We’ll definitely be back. Phone 011 907 0617 for bookings and enquiries.

Bouquet of the Week

To Sinzinani Spa for being one of the most relaxing spas in Johannesburg South. Situated in the tranquil indigenous gardens of Thaba Eco Hotel, on Impala Road, near the Kliprivier Nature Reserve, you’ll instantly relax as you drive up the road to the spa and hotel. The staff are professional and friendly and go out of their way to make your time with them special. Prices are very competitive, in fact more reasonable than some other beauty salons. I was there last week and left feeling totally relaxed and ready to face the day. Phone 011 959 0712 to make an appointment.

That’s it for this week. Lots of Christmas gift ideas coming in the next few weeks. Shop till you drop.
