I know there is often much controversy about this particular event on the calendar but it’s definitely becoming more popular here every year.
I remember as a child I loved dressing up and we could go trick or treating in our little village where I lived. It was safe then. Our neighbour dreaded our visit every year and I took great joy in throwing a handful of flour in his face! He was a jolly good sport though and took it all as good fun. We didn’t have pumpkins so my dad would hallow out big turnips and cut out eyes and a mouth and we’d have a lit candle inside. My grandmother made Halloween treats and it was fantastic.
Many shops are selling Halloween “trick or treats” with Woolworths stocking loads of scary, gooey sweets and the like! Birthday’s in The Glen has witches hats and some costumes and the Toy Factory at The Glen is selling costumes and witches hats. I bought one just in case I decide to take to the skies on October 31!
Mall at Newmarket
First it was Mall of the South and now we have this new centre which is opening on Thursday October 22. I’m sure many Albertonians have been waiting eagerly for the opening and now the wait is over! The 34 000m2 centre will open on the old Newmarket Racecourse in Alberton, conveniently situated by residential areas and other major property developments. Old Albertonians and fans of Newmarket Racecourse will be happy to know that the racehorse theme has been kept as a reminder of the heritage of the land it is built on. The mall will be family orientated with ample dining and shopping opportunities, with Checkers Hyper, Food Lovers Market, Builders Warehouse, Virgin Active and a vibrant food court. Come and enjoy Spur, John Dory’s, Panarotti’s, Mugg and Bean, Calisto’s, Rocomamas, as well as a horse-themed kids play area. Among the other tenants are Nedbank, Absa, Fnb, Viva Bingo, Catboc Hyper and Waltons. Don’t miss out, go along and shop till you drop!
