The Bag Lady

Cooler and darker mornings, autumn is just around the corner.

Checking out the shops I see more knitwear coming in, beautiful shades of pale pink, grey, coral and lemon, as well as baby blue.

Y not take a look?

A store I’ve not visited for a while is YDE (Young Designers Emporium). Gorgeous dresses, long and short, very similar styles to Forever New, but less pricey are in stock now. I tried on a beautiful navy silk long gown, at R790 not too bad for a special occasion, I’m still deciding on it. They also have soft knits and exquisite costume jewellery. I’ve just made up my mind – I’m going back!

Tradition in a jar

Indian food, one of South Africa’s most influential cuisines, introduced adventurous South African palates to the sweet and spicy delights of pickles and atchars. That’s why Peppadew®, a South African food brand and market leader in the pickle category, has launched a range of awesome atchars hot on the heels of its successful introduction of pickled jalapenos and pickled onions and pasta sauces.

If you’re a fan of melted Camembert, like me, you’ll be blown away when you add Peppadew® Mild Vegetable Atchar with Piquanté Peppers to the cheese before popping it in the oven. So delicious!

Next time you’ve got a fillet of snoek or other meaty fish to braai, forget the apricot jam. It’s pureéd Peppadew® Mild Mango Atchar with Piquanté Peppers you’re after.

Worth a read

A History of Loneliness by John Boyn, Exclusive Books.  Set in Ireland and then Rome, the character, Odran Yates, a Dubliner, was sexually attacked in his childhood by an Irish priest, who is a friend of the family. It centres on child abuse by the clergy and studies corrupting effects of power in Ireland. Contraception, abortion and divorce were strictly forbidden but child abuse went unpunished.  It is a brutal novel and Boyn writes about the abuses of power and the dangers of submission.
