The Bag Lady

What's The Bag Lady been up to this week?

In April last year I sent my dad a birthday card for his 80th birthday which was on May 6. He never received it and because I couldn’t see him as he lives in England I was really upset. Lo and behold I spoke to my parents last weekend and they said, “Guess what we have up in the lounge?” It was the long lost birthday card! Goodness knows where it’s been for seven months but better late than never.

Another phone call to my sister, who also lives in England, went something like this: Me – Sorry I didn’t phone you yesterday, we had load shedding. Sister – What’s that? Me – When the electricity goes off because of problems. Sister – Oh, no, I hope the problems are cleared up in the next few days.  Me – No, it’s going to take the next few years. There wasn’t a sound from the other end of the line and after what felt like ages she said, “You are joking aren’t you?” They have no idea!

Valentine gift ideas

If money is tight and you still want to give your loved one a gift, check out the shops for chocolates in heart shapes. When your partner wakes up make sure the heart is on the pillow next to his/her head. They’ll be melted away!!

Flowers are beautiful but so costly. If you really would like to buy a bunch of flowers go to the flower market (Multiflora). They will still be expensive but not quite what a florist will charge. Or support the guys who sell flowers at the side of the road. My daughter swears when her boyfriend buys flowers from the man in the street they last longer than shop bought!

Bake a cake in the shape of a heart for the sweet toothed man in your life or heart shaped biscuits you can pack in his lunchbox.

Buy a romantic book or a CD.

Pack a picnic and don’t forget the blanket or fold up chairs. There are quite a few local areas where you can go, ie, Rietvlei Farm, Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, Jackson Dam, and it won’t cost as much as eating out.

I don’t think there are many women who don’t enjoy wearing perfume, and jewellery too is always a winner. You can buy beautiful silver and costume jewellery, so it won’t break the bank.

If you enjoy cooking, make a delicious meal at home, set the table, not forgetting the candles and serviettes, put on soft background music, a bottle or two of wine in the fridge and enjoy the evening.

Bouquets of the Week

Mrs Vorster from Alberton gives a huge bouquet to Jacques van der Merwe who is a hearing Aid Acoustician in Randhart. “My husband is elderly and Jacques even comes out to our home to assist him with his hearing aid problems. He really goes the extra mile for us and we are so grateful. Thank you Jacques.”

A satisfied customer says: “ Some months ago you had a snippet about ABL Cleaning & Gardening Services, so on the strength of that I had them to come and clean my carpets and upholstered furniture. A huge bouquet to both Adele and Anthea for a job well done at a very reasonable price!”

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop,

Julie
