The Bag Lady

Another beautiful week with glorious sunny days, winter must be arriving soon.

I’ve got my winter wardrobe all ready to wear and still haven’t had a chance yet! I’m sure when it hits us, we’ll really feel the Big Chill!

With Father’s Day on Sunday June 15 I have been out and about looking for gift ideas.

R50 to R100 – Choose from a bottle of wine (available at Checkers, Pick n Pay, and local bottle stores); Biltong (from Meat World, Comaro Crossing or Alberton, and Sunnyside Biltong Glenvista Shopping Centre); Chocolates (from Woolworths, Pick n Pay and Checkers); Gardening or car magazine. Or take a couple of the products above and wrap them in cellophane with a ribbon. A lovely gift.

R100 to R200 – Visit Bargain Books (011 435 4328) The Glen Shopping Centre and have a look at their great variety of books. Chad Le Clos’ Unbelievable, a book about family values and perseverance, now R159. If your dad loves Man United and hasn’t read Alex Ferguson’s My Autobiography, it’s now only R149 at Bargain Books. Or how about a CD or a DVD. Something to keep him warm, a scarf and slippers or pj’s. Woolworths has a men’s Shoe Polish Kit, perfect for the traveller too as it’s all together in a round case for R170; or a Men’s Manicure set for R130.

Does your dad enjoy cooking? More and more men seem hooked on cooking up a storm and there are some fabulous cooking utensils, etc out there. Woolworths sells – Serious Cook Steaming Basket for R120; Serious Cook Knife Sharpener R130; Serious Cook Three Piece Japanese Knife set R160 and for him to sit down and enjoy his rare steak, six stainless steel steak knives R130.

Does he enjoy braaing? A pair of leather Braai Gloves at Woolworths for R180. @Home Living is selling Gourmet Craving Beer Bread Mix in Olive and Rosemary or Biltong (made with bio-wheat stone ground unbleached natural flour) a box for R119. Three-piece cutting board set R99;

Gifts over R200 – Woolworths Grill/braai stone for use in the oven or braai R399; Woollen jersey; Chino’s; shirt. For the totally “modern” dad, a onesie! I saw one at Woolworths for R475! Bamboo Spice Rack 12 jars R450 from @Home Living.

Sky’s the limit – @Home Living – Nespresso Inissia R1 649; Most men enjoy wearing aftershave or cologne, take a peek at Edgars, Clicks, Dis-Chem and Foschini. How about a voucher for a massage from a local Spa or a pedicure; A garden bench for your dad to enjoy relaxing in the garden. Or treat him to lunch out but don’t forget to book now. Restaurants are usually fully booked for special occasions.

If you still can’t decide, go for a gift voucher, always safe and always welcome.

That’s it for this week. Another Focus on Local next week.
