The Idols Judge: A cheesy top 10

Having kicked off this year’s top 10 performances with a ‘cheesy’ theme, some performances were just okay, while others deserve their spot on stage.

JOHANNESBURG – An evening kicked off beautifully by Brenden with ‘You Sexy thing’ ended on a high note with Christina’s rendition of ‘Walking on Sunshine’. Speaking of Christina, I get the feeling she has decided this is the time to show what she’s got, and she is doing a pretty good job of it.

Sunday’s show was enjoyable; there were hardly any ‘bad’ performances; although I find it difficult to remember Zoë, Tumi, Crystalene, Benjamin and I can vaguely remember what Sonke did. All I remember from Sonke was a great finish at the end; however, even that does not stand out.

What stood out strong for me was Brenden, Musa and Christina’s performances. The three were simply on point in terms of what they needed, to move on to the next stage of the competition. Although Christina’s performance was not that amazing, her energy on stage should be enough to keep her in the show.

Brenden and Musa on the other hand, were outstanding from beginning to end. Maybe Brenden should have moved around the stage a little more, but he did well; awesome stuff from him. Musa delivered what is believed to be a complete performance of the night; he reminded South Africa why he is one of the favourites to win the show.

Unfortunately, there were performances which were already forgotten by the end of the evening. While being different may be a good thing, for Benjamin, he may be among the bottom three from Sunday’s show. Unfortunately, Tumi and Crystalene may join him, as their performances were not that much better.
