The Bag Lady

Still no rain to speak of and October is on our doorstep.

As much as I’m not a fan of heavy rain we do need it desperately. I find if I don’t water the garden pots twice a day they dry out and the seedlings become bedraggled and die. An absolute bonus for this time of the year though is the perfume of blossom, jasmine and ‘yesterday, today and tomorrow’.

One day last week I was out and about and took a walk along a street in the South. The heady perfume from the trees and shrubs was too lovely and now I know Spring, with all its beauty, has really arrived.

Comfortable eyes

At this time of the year when everything is so dry my eyes become very itchy. I’ve tried various eye drops but last week bought Systane Ultra lubricant eye drops. My eyes instantly felt so much better, and you can use them if you wear contact lenses too.

Priced best at Mr Price

Mr Price Home and Mr Price (clothing) really do have some fabulous buys. I tend to think Mr Price clothing is for the younger set though as their sizes are small and the material not very giving! Definitely great though for teens and those in their 20s as their clothing is well priced and with fashion changing every season you won’t waste a lot trying to keep up with the Joneses! They do have some gorgeous handbags, some bright, and others natural, as well as wallets, purses and laptop bags, for only R99. Take a peek!

Alberton City’s Mr Price Home is set out very well with coordinating home furnishings, décor items and bedding. I liked the way items are also colour coded to make your shopping a breeze.

Going nuts

I can’t believe how expensive nuts have become. I’m a fan of those mixed salted nuts which they sell in containers at Woolies. I was horrified to see they now cost over R100! They are addictive but I’ll have to control the urge to pick up a container while I wait in the queue.

Lemon of the Week

Maud Pickup from Linmeyer is disgusted with staff at CNA The Glen. “I was in CNA The Glen last Wednesday and bought a few things. There were two assistants at the till, both busy and they seemed to take ages. Finally I heard ‘next please’ so off I went, and I remarked to the assistant, how bad the service was today. She completely ignored me, never said a word to me, the only thing she said to me was ‘would you like a packet?’ She took my card, put my goods in the packet, not even ‘goodbye’ or anything. I do not know what is becoming of the assistants at the tills these days, they should at least greet you with a ‘good day’ or something? If they are in a bad mood, then they should not be working at the tills, instead they should be packing shelves or working where they do not have to serve the public.”

I couldn’t agree with you more, Maud. Bad service is one of my pet hates and it does seem to be getting worse! With Christmas coming I really hope shop assistants will up their game and try and be a little more jolly.

That’s it for this week. E-mail: juliem@caxton.co.za with your shopping news. Shop till you drop!
