ACT hand over GBV-F board game at Suidheuwels

GBV-F can be eradicated through teaching children about it at school, so they understand why it is wrong.

Awareness for Child Trafficking Africa (ACT) co-founder Hilary Leong and co-founder Matthew Mensah handed over the No 2 Violence (N2V) Board Game to Laerskool Suidheuwels on October 11.

The board game was made to create awareness and teach learners about GBV-F in children and help them make better choices regarding the issue and why GBV-F is wrong.

“We saw a need for something tangible to influence young children positively about a pertinent issue like GBV-F, after some trial and error the game is ready to use and make a difference,” said Hilary.

The No. 2 Violence Board Game was launched in August 2024. Following the launch, the first rollout took place at designated schools in Gauteng – Johannesburg South and West, where the final stage of playtesting the prototypes during the final development stage was done by children from these schools.

They gave their feedback on what they preferred and wanted to be changed for the game to be fine-tuned accordingly.

Their feedback has resulted in the completion of the final product which was launched and has now been handed over to schools to use. Board games were donated to each of the schools including Laerskool Suidheuwels, for the children to play during the relevant subject classes as deemed fit by the Principal and staff by the school curriculum.

The main objective is for the N2V board game to be accessible to the children and resultantly have a positive impact on them and the schools in the fight against GBV-F and bullying as negative mindsets can be changed and children can start making wiser and better decisions regarding GBV-F and bullying at a young age.
