Normalising of meters starts in Bellavista

City Power technicians will be visiting all 188 households in the Bellevista area.

City Power informs customers in the Bellavista area that from September 4 a process of normalising meters will commence.

The normalisation programme will involve auditing, replacement, and resetting of smart pre-paid meters across Bellavista.

This programme comes following several engagements with councillors, residents and other key stakeholders, about the need to install new meters.

The installation of meters is a vital step towards enhancing the quality of electricity supply services.

With smart meters, City Power can better manage the grid by monitoring consumption patterns and responding more efficiently to demand. These devices also give consumers access to detailed information about their energy usage, encouraging energy-saving behaviours and helping customers make informed decisions about their energy consumption.

This doesn’t only help customers in cutting electricity costs, but it’s also key in reducing outages that are often associated with overloading of the network. The installation of meters is also essential for ensuring that customers can keep their lights on after the Token Identifier (TID) rollover deadline in November.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said after November 24, prepaid meters with the old codes will cease to accept the recharge vouchers, rendering those meters obsolete.

City Power is rolling out a meter installation programme, to ensure that no customer is left in the dark post-TID rollover deadline.

“We urge all customers to grant our metering technicians access to their homes to replace meters free of charge so that they can enjoy access to a safe and reliable electricity supply.

“Our technicians will be visiting all 188 households in the Bellavista area.

“Customers are urged to provide an ID number, home address and contact information of the owner of the house. We would like to assure residents that any personal information shared with City Power is protected under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), to safeguard personal data and ensure that it is handled with the utmost care and confidentiality. Your cooperation in this regard will be appreciated,” explained Mangena.
