Civic education session empowers residents in wards 56, 57 and 124

The session empowered residents to take action, voice their ideas and collaborate with local officials.

Residents recently gathered for an insightful civic education session about Community Based Planning (CBP) where they discussed the importance of active citizenship and community involvement.

Representatives from Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Group Strategy, Policy Coordination and Relations Department (GSPCR), Group Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM), the City’s Revenue Customer Services and ward councillors attended.


Lebogang Mhlongo, Earl Stoles, Clr Faeeza Chame, Clr Michael Crichton, Sandile Mkhize and Idaya Walter Phiri.

Residents from wards 56, 57 and 124 engaged in the event that emphasised the importance of local input in shaping the future of the neighbourhood.

Topics discussed were what is CBP, the public engagement process or council cycle community issues, regional or ward Capex projects, service delivery issues and rates and taxes.


Attendees were actively involved in the discussions.

The session not only educated the attendees but also inspired a stronger sense of ownership and responsibility for the community’s development.

As a result, residents left with a renewed commitment to ensuring wards 56, 57 and 124 grow in a way that reflects the needs and values of its people.
