Miss Turffontein queens donate to local charities

Local teen pageant princesses use their titles to make a difference to their communities.

Oarabile Nkabinde, Vanessa Ntlemo and Prudence Muleya channelled their crowns into acts of kindness.

Known for their grace and poise, they stepped into the community to make a meaningful impact through charity work.

Oarabile (14) from Kibler Park is the reigning Miss Pre-teen Turffontein 2023. She campaigned from May until July for clothes and shoes in good condition to give back to the community and the less fortunate.

Additionally, she met with matron Cynthia Ndlovu, who is in charge of the processing of the charity.

Oarabile said: “I collected two full plastic bags of shoes and 11 plastic bags of clothes.”

She donated the collected items to Nkosi’s Haven in Alan Manor.

Oarabile described collecting as fun and educational because it taught her to love more, respect more, appreciate life, and be grateful for what she has.

“The hand-over went well, and the recipients were delighted and grateful. It makes me want to do more because I could put a smile on someone’s face,” added the pre-teen title holder.

“As a reigning Miss Pre-teen Turffontein 2023, I feel honoured and blessed to have won the title. It has allowed me to embrace myself, gain confidence, and communication skills, and be involved in community projects, which I love the most.”

Orabile is thankful to the Miss Turffontein organisers for the opportunity. She emphasised: “Thank you to all the donors of shoes and clothes in Kibler Park, and lastly my beautiful mother for encouraging me, loving me, and believing in me throughout the journey of Miss Turffontein 2023.”

Vanessa Ntlemo (14) is the reigning Miss Turffontein Teen Second Princess 2023 from Palmridge, Alberton.

On August 3, she donated clothes and snacks to the Al Tawheed Foundation in Palm Ridge. She met with Mr Sheikh, the head of the foundation.

“I was happy to donate because I could put smiles on the faces of everyone present. They appreciated the little I offered, and it was an amazing experience,” said Vanessa.

Prudence Muleya (20) from Southdale is the current first princess of Miss Turffontein in 2023.

Prudence Muleya makes a difference beyond the stage.

Prudence said: “Winning this title is an amazing opportunity and has changed how I used to think about winning modelling titles.”

Being crowned Miss Turffontein 2023 first princess made Prudence realize that because one has won, it does not mean that they should take the crown and sash and decorate their homes but use it as a platform to grow, give back to the community and use it as a platform to empower upcoming models who do not know where to start.

“As the first princess, I want to give back to the community by donating clothes. I made a clothing donation poster and two months passed and people were not taking my poster seriously. My mom donated some of her pre-owned clothes, as she also believes in giving back to the community.”

The clothes and shoes filled two plastic bags of clothes and one plastic bag of shoes. Prudence donated to the Frida Hartley Women’s Shelter. She chose this shelter because Frida Hartley focuses on empowering the ladies in their care to become independent, confident, and self-sufficient.

“Through donating, I met a lovely and welcoming lady, Cheryl Hlabane,” said Prudence.

The three young girls’ dedication goes beyond the glitz and glamour, demonstrating that true beauty lies in the spirit of generosity.
