Chaplain Iris Shipalane from the JMPD said they were celebrating Women’s Month with the learners because they wanted to motivate and show them what it means to be a woman.

“We want to celebrate with these young women. We have sanitary towels we will donate to them. We want them to be confident and come to school, even if it is that time of the month for them.

“They need to stand up for themselves and be counted. We want these learners to get an education and be always at school.

“Other than what we brought, there are also people from Colgate who will donate toothpaste and toothbrushes. They will educate them about health and also safety,” she said.

The school’s HOD Lindelani Mudau welcomed the kind gesture from the stakeholders.

“It is an honour and a blessing to have all these people at our school. We have learners who cannot afford sanitary towels, toothpaste and toothbrushes. As a non-paying fees school, we have challenges and these organisations help us. We need more people to come to our school and donate whatever they can to uplift us.

“We are grateful to have Metro World Kids as one organisation which adopted our school. They were with us even before they were appointed by the Gauteng Department of Education. They help us in teaching our learners responsibility and they have programmes about drugs and the abuse,” he said.
