Hamlet Foundation celebrates 70th birthday

The Hamlet Foundation, an NPO for children and adults with intellectual disabilities (based in Rewlatch, Johannesburg South), is celebrating their 70th birthday this year.

The Hamlet Foundation, a place of hope, is a home filled with joy, laughter and love.

The NPO started from humble beginnings when a group of parents started the foundation in 1954 for their children who were exempt from going into traditional schooling.

As the years went by, The Hamlet Foundation grew and has now developed to include a school, a residential centre for the adults, hydroponic tunnels where they grow their vegetables and a protective workshop where the adults work.

The Hamlet Foundation, celebrating its 70th birthday this year, is dependent on the generosity of the corporate sector, along with the public’s donations and acts of kindness.

“The momentous birthday celebration of The Hamlet Foundation has been an enormous blessing for those with intellectual disabilities – their beneficiaries. The Hamlet Foundation is not just a centre, it is their home. Thank you to Marcel Duvenage who generously sponsored the 70th birthday cake, and to all the sponsors throughout the last 70 years. The Hamlet Foundation couldn’t have done it without you,” said Chanté Blight of The Hamlet Foundation.
