Mandela Day one to remember for Eikenhof School

Light Fibre do their 67 minutes at school in Eikenhof.

Light Fibre Infrastructure, a telecommunications and fibre company, hosted a Mandela Day event on July 18 at Elethu Themba School in Eikenhof.

The event outlined the donation of soccer and netball kits to the school and a refurbished sports ground, as part of LFI’s contribution to the school. Light Fibre will also be installing a fibre optic network at the school which will allow the school to have access to the internet.

Maropeng Seolonyani, the director of Light Fibre, explained the importance of the event.

“Sport is a key part of development for learners, therefore, we wanted to give them better equipment to work with,” said Maropeng.

“The installation of fibre is essential, as access to the internet will only aid the school in using technology to advance learning at Elethu Themba. It’s just about us giving back to our community, in a meaningful way.”

Phumzile Mhlongo, the principal at Elethu Themba, expressed her gratitude for the benefits of the event. “Sport is such a fun way to develop skills and empower children and this contribution is allowing our underprivileged kids to enjoy better opportunities.

“The fibre installed will allow our school to access so much more information via the internet and use it in our day-to-day teaching and learning processes. I am so grateful,” she said.

The event’s outcomes ensured greater opportunities for the learners of Elethu Themba which will last longer than 67 minutes.
