Tahilla Beauty Spa, situated at Rietvlei Zoo Farm was affected by the fire that broke out on July 12.

The spa was completely burnt down. Fortunately, no personnel or clients were injured.

Owner Denisha Govender, built the business from nothing and now has to do it all again. “We started with a gazebo at the car wash, with our own finances,” said Govender.

“Business has completely stopped and Rietvlei has not given us another premise, the spa is my only source of income,” she continued.

Workers were doing maintenance at the Rietvlei lapas, replacing old thatch roofs.

Zandile Radebe, manager of Tahilla witnessed the workers burning the old thatch, to keep warm. The workers were also using a welding machine.

“At around 14:50, I saw flames on top of the lapas behind the spa. Before that there were workers busy replacing the roofs and they were also burning the old thatch to keep warm,” said Radebe.

“The fire started at those lapas and spread towards us, burning everything including the Gathering Church,” she continued.

The manager at Rietvlei, Angel Radebe said that, “The fire did start at the lapas at the back including the Peacock lapa. Tenants informed the office and the fire department was contacted. I cannot comment on the cause of the fire at this time. Rietvlei has allowed the church to use the hall for now. In terms of the beauty spa, I do not know what will happen going forward.”
