Wits medical students forge lasting bonds at Johannesburg Society for the Blind

Wits medical students do community service at the Johannesburg Society for the Blind.

Third-year medical students from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) recently embarked on a three-day community service initiative with the Johannesburg Society for the Blind (JSB).

Nkosana Kubheka, the JSB COO, said the collaborative effort aimed to serve the community and foster meaningful interactions and experiences for the students and beneficiaries.

“The Wits medical students’ involvement extended beyond traditional volunteer work. They engaged with the beneficiaries, creating a supportive and inclusive environment. Through collaborative activities and games, they not only brought joy and excitement to the participants but also formed lasting connections that transcended the boundaries of disability.

“Furthermore, the students showcased their creativity and dedication by brainstorming fundraising ideas to support the initiatives of the JSB. Their innovative approach and proactive mindsets demonstrated a deep sense of responsibility and empathy to the community they served,” said Kubheka.

The JSB extends gratitude to the medical students for their dedication, enthusiasm, and care during the programme.

“Their willingness to go above and beyond in engaging with the beneficiaries and contributing to the organisation’s mission is truly commendable,” said Kubheka.
