Pair host uplifting garden tea party for the underprivileged

The tea party united people for the betterment of the community.

In a world where kindness and compassion often seem in short supply, two people with an unwavering dedication to making a difference shine brightly.

Gavin Bell, who has lived in the south his entire life and his aunt, Maureen Phillips, affectionately known as Momo by her loved ones, have embarked on a mission to uplift the underprivileged in the south of Joburg, one life at a time.

On March 9, Maureen and Gavin hosted a delightful garden tea party. It was an opportunity for potential sponsors to come together and learn about Phillips and Bell’s inspiring vision and mission for the upcoming MOMO’s Upliftment Centre.

The vision for MOMO’s Upliftment Centre, formerly known as Cotlands Baby Sanctuary, aims to provide a haven for underprivileged grandmothers, single mothers and their children, foreseeing a centre that will offer support services and resources to help them get on their feet and move towards a more promising and empowered future.

It will also offer a collaborative space where the elderly or grandmothers can pass their wisdom to younger women and children while encouraging the exchange of knowledge from the young to the elderly.

Nicky Vakaloudis from SOJO said: “We are grateful for the privilege of being invited to the event and for the opportunity to support this exceptional cause that aligns with our community initiatives in the south of Joburg.”

Beyond providing thoughtful, comfortable and private accommodation, the centre aims to create a nurturing environment where women can learn basic skills and experience the love of Jesus. Volunteers will play a vital role in this initiative, sharing their expertise in various fields to empower and uplift these women seeking help.

MOMO’s looks forward to the fruits of everyone involved, fostering an environment that will provide the opportunity to serve, learn, uplift, love and grow.

“I have journeyed from humble beginnings in SA, and when faced with my adversity, God showed me that my challenges could either hinder or propel me forward. Choosing to view my struggles as stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks, I embarked on a courageous journey with successful endeavours in the USA,” highlighted Phillips.

Her inspirational story is a testament to the power of her resilience and faith in God.
