Trinityhouse Glenvista is buzzing with excitement as their esteemed coach, Elijah Mahlangu, has been handpicked to join the management team of the Gauteng U16 boys basketball squad for the upcoming inter-provincial tournament (IPT) in Durban, which takes place from March 25 to 29.

This prestigious appointment marks a significant milestone for Mahlangu and the school’s basketball programme.

Reflecting on his selection, Mahlangu remarked, “The process was thorough and collaborative. It involved engaging with the basketball community across Gauteng, from district associations to local clubs.”

Reflecting on his appointment, he said, “I am honoured to have been selected and am eager to contribute to the development of young talents in Gauteng.”

Mahlangu stressed the indispensable significance of fostering team cohesion, underlining its pivotal role in achieving success. “Building a robust bond among players is fundamental for our journey towards victory. My primary objective is to cultivate an environment wherein each player feels profoundly valued and inspired to excel.

“We’ll achieve this through meticulously structured training camps and a regimen of regular feedback sessions, ensuring every individual’s growth and contribution is recognised and nurtured,” said Mahlangu.

Mahlangu underscored the broader objectives of the team beyond mere on-court victories, expressing lofty aspirations for their holistic development.

“Success for us transcends the scoreboard. We are deeply committed to nurturing each player’s growth, both as athletes and individuals.

“Our focus lies in honing the talents of each player and pinpointing areas for improvement. Through a meticulous assessment of strengths and weaknesses, we endeavour to unlock our full potential on the court,” said Mahlangu.

Reflecting on the diverse and inclusive nature of Gauteng’s basketball landscape, Mahlangu highlighted the region’s unique strength.

“Gauteng’s basketball community stands out for its variety of origins and schools. At the IPT, we aim to celebrate this diversity, further solidifying Gauteng’s reputation as a dominant force in South African basketball,” said Mahlungu.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between competition and enjoyment.

“While the tournament is undoubtedly competitive, it’s essential for players to enjoy the experience and grow both personally and athletically. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where players can thrive.”

Mahlangu said that he is looking forward to the event and is optimistic about the squad’s development.

“Regardless of the outcome, I hope that the U16 squad will emerge from the tournament stronger and more determined. Participation in national tournaments is an invaluable experience that shapes players’ futures in basketball,” said Mahlangu.
