Social club for seniors collects and donates to Teddy Bear Foundation

Crown Gardens Seniors Club calls for more people to join their social club.

The Teddy Bear Foundation (TBF) received a handsome donation from the Crown Gardens Seniors Club at Crown Gardens Recreation Centre on March 6.

These donations include the collected items from various elderly people who handmade warm items like ponchos, scarves, socks and beanies. They also collected soft toys.

The seniors club chairperson Deena Kistnasami said they are a social club for seniors (50 years and upwards). They meet every Wednesday from 10:00 to noon.

“Everyone brings snacks and his or her cutlery. We have a schedule of activities that we do at each meeting. These include games, quizzes, outings, bingo and auctions, to name a few.

“We sometimes go out for breakfast or lunch. At the end of every quarter, we celebrate birthdays for members born in that quarter.

“We collected all these items to donate to TBF. Some of the seniors made it themselves, and we bought others,” he said.

Kistnasami called for seniors to join them as they needed more members. “This is a very old social club, and at one point had over 35 members, however, because of Covid-19 we lost many members. Although we now have a manageable number of people, everyone is welcome to join,” he said.

Jean-André Deenik from TBF appreciated the kind gesture.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the Crown Gardens Seniors Club for their remarkable donation of knitted teddies, delightful toys for Christmas, and beautiful ponchos. Your generosity will undoubtedly make this holiday season extra special for the children at the Teddy Bear Foundation.

“For many, your thoughtful gifts may be the only presents they receive this Christmas, bringing immeasurable joy and a sense of being cherished. Moreover, the comforting ponchos will provide solace and support to children navigating through court proceedings.

“Your contribution goes beyond the tangible items; it creates moments of warmth, happiness, and reassurance for those we serve. Thank you for making a lasting impact on the lives of children at the Teddy Bear Foundation,” noted Deenik.

About the Teddy Bear Foundation

The TBF assists abused children by accompanying them step by step on their journey to healing. A child’s journey to healing begins when they disclose their abuse and have access to the services provided by TBF.

These services aim to minimise the effects of abuse through specialised care, protection and support to the children and their families.

All the services are free. This ensures all children have access to TBF services within no specific time frame.

If you would like to sponsor a child on their healing journey or just one aspect of their journey, contact Dalene Bishop at daleneb@ttbc.org.za, 083 469 9196 or 011 484 4554/5439.
