In the bustling city of Johannesburg, is a haven of hope and compassion, Door of Hope Children’s Mission.

For over two decades, this organisation has been a beacon of light for more than 2 000 children who have been rescued, nurtured, loved, reunited, and adopted.

As Door of Hope prepares to celebrate its silver jubilee this July, it is a time of reflection and celebration of the journey undertaken by its founder Cheryl Allen and the dedicated staff and management.

The story of Door of Hope is one of perseverance, determination, and unwavering commitment to the most vulnerable members of society. Founded by Allen, the mission was born out of a promise to the abandoned babies left to perish in the wilderness, toilets, or discarded like trash in plastic bags.

Allen vowed these children matter, and that Door of Hope would fight for their right to life and a life filled with love, dignity, and opportunity.

The organisation provides a loving, caring, and nurturing home for children in desperate need of refuge and care. From the moment they enter the doors of Door of Hope, they envelop these children in warmth and compassion, receiving round-the-clock care and attention tailored to their individual needs.

For newborns, this means two- to four-hour feeds to ensure their delicate bodies receive the nourishment they require for healthy development.

As they grow, they are introduced to solid foods and milk, prepared to meet their nutritional needs. Toddlers are provided with wholesome meals, ensuring they have the energy and sustenance they need for play, learning, and growth.

Every child under its care is given opportunities for stimulation, education, exercise, and creative play. From sensory activities to early childhood education, every aspect of their development is carefully nurtured and supported. Those with special needs receive the specialised care and attention necessary for their unique requirements.

The impact of Door of Hope extends beyond the walls of its premises. Through its tireless efforts, countless children have been given a second chance at life. Many have been reunited with loving families, while others have found forever homes through adoption. Each success story is a testament to the dedication of the staff and management who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being and future of every child under their care.

In the midst of Door of Hope’s celebrations, remains a deep sense of purpose and determination to continue the vital work of saving lives and building futures for the children who need it most.

In a world often marked by uncertainty and adversity, Door of Hope stands as an example of the power of love, compassion, and human resilience. As they look towards the future, they do so with hope, knowing with each child they save, they are not just changing a life, but shaping the future of a nation.
