Ashrama’s 36th Deepavali grocery hamper drive

The Sri Adi Shankara Ashrama, a Swami Sivananda Centre situated in Winchester Hills, South of Johannesburg, is bracing itself for its 36th Deepavali grocery hamper distribution, which will take place on November 4.

The Ashrama, a vibrant sanctuary of spiritual, cultural and humanitarian outreach activities, has been in existence since 1983.

Sri Swami Shivashankarananda and Sri Swami Shraddhananda Mataji, trustees of the centre, said “The Ashrama, founded by Sri Swami Shankarananda Saraswathi, the illustrious disciple of Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj, has, since its inception, been a pillar of strength to those that languish in poverty and destitution.

“Through its many socio-humanitarian outreach initiatives that it embarks upon from time to time, it intends for the upliftment of the poor and needy members of the community.

“Through the kind support of wonderful well-wishers and supporters in the community, as well as organisations and the business sector, we have been able to extend our love and compassion to thousands of needy families since our inception.

“We once again appeal to the entire community to support us to make this Deepavali Grocery Hamper Drive an even more successful and rewarding project than ever before.”

The cost of each grocery hamper is still R500 and it is left entirely to the public to decide as to how many families they would like to support this Deepavali.
