Robertsham resident constructs an anti-hijacking pepper spray

The device can be used by motorists and homeowners.

Marius Myburgh from Robertsham has built a contraption to help motorists scare off possible hijackers.

He called it a ‘self-contained anti-hijacking pepper spray’. He said he was inspired to do this after his friend, a truck driver, was hijacked and had to retaliate by shooting the hijacker, which got him into trouble.

“This device does not need the car battery because it works independently. Just press the remote, and the nozzle fitted under the car on the driver and passenger sides does the magic. You can put it in your boot, and it has a safety pin. It is very effective when you are in danger. Of course, it works like a crowd-controller pepper spray.

“Car owners, truck drivers and even homeowners can use it. And the remote can work even if you are 30m away from it,” he said.

When it comes to truck drivers, he said that the device can be fitted in the trailer to scare off criminals.

“I like this because it doesn’t hurt people. It just makes you sneeze, and if you are caught in it, you can’t do anything. The remote battery lasts for more than a year, you can lock it and it has a safety pin for children,” noted Myburgh.
