Scores flock at South Hills Recreation Centre to get help with Sassa grants

The councillor said scores got help with grants.

Not only Ward 57 residents but also people from as far as the Northern suburbs flocked to the South Hills Recreation Centre on November 16 to apply for Sassa grants for child support and become grant-in-aid beneficiaries.

Everyone was assisted with relevant information and those that could not be assisted were directed to the correct departments.

Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame said at the child support grant (CSG) the caregivers who are eligible for the CSG top-up also applied. These include grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings or cousins caring for orphans in providing for their basic needs.

“The purpose is to keep the child/children within their extended family environment, without removing them from familiar households. Once the documents are approved the child/children will receive their basic CSG of R480, plus an additional amount of R250 bringing the total to R720,” she said.

Anyone who did not make it to the centre can still apply at 1 De Villiers Street, Johannesburg CBD. The documents required are the identity document/smart identity card of the caregiver and spouse (if married), marriage certificate of caregiver (if married), proof of employment of caregiver and spouse (if employed), birth certificate of the child/children and three months’ bank statements.

For Sassa an old age grant, you will need a copy of your identity document and a month’s bank statement.

“We had Standard Bank and Nedbank at the South Hills Recreation Centre to assist with bank accounts,” she said.
