Murder accused receives life imprisonment

Six-year-old murder case finalised and guilty verdict obtained.

The case of a Turffontein murder was finalised and on February 27 the accused was handed life imprisonment.

Booysens SAPS communications officer Captain Lorraine van Emmerik said on October 4, 2018, at about 19:45 the complainant and a friend were sitting in a vehicle, which was parked in the street, busy talking.

“Two unknown men approached the vehicle. One of the suspects went to the side where the friend was sitting. He was armed with a firearm. The other suspect came to the complainant’s side of the car.

“They were both pulled out of the car. The complainant ran towards the house when she heard a car drive away. She then heard a gunshot and then another car drove away.

“She looked out of the house window and saw the friend lying down. Paramedics were called but the friend was declared dead. It was later discovered that the vehicle they were sitting in was hijacked,” explained Van Emmerik.

The docket was given to Warrant Officer Joseph Yende to investigate. The docket was finalised in court.

The following sentence was given:

• Count 1: murder – life imprisonment;

• Count 2: robbery – 15 years imprisonment;

• Count 3: possession of an unlicensed firearm – seven years imprisonment; and

• Count 4: possession of ammunition – two years imprisonment.

The management of Booysens SAPS thanked Yende for his hard work and dedication in obtaining a guilty verdict.
