JMPD arrests 172 motorists for drunk driving in one week

The JMPD is deeply concerned about the alarming number of motorists driving under the influence of alcohol, which resulted in 172 arrests in one week.

The JMPD is concerned about the number of motorists who continually get arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani, they apprehended 172 individuals for endangering their own lives and those of other road users by driving while intoxicated between February 12 and 18 in operations throughout the City of Johannesburg.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence that not only puts the driver at risk but also endangers the lives of innocent people on the road. The consequences of drunk driving can be deadly, leading to accidents, injuries, and even fatalities.

“We urge all motorists to act responsibly and never get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. Many alternative options are available, such as using public transport and e-hailing services or designating a sober driver.

“The JMPD will continue enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on drunk driving and will not hesitate to arrest those who choose to break the law. Let us all work together to make our roads safer for everyone,” said JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Fihla.
