SAPS operations continue to produce good results

Gauteng province SAPS commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela vows to keep the province free from crime.

Under the direction of the provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, the police in Gauteng continue their efforts to combat crime in the province.

SAPS in Gauteng work with various law enforcement agencies and private security firms through the Eyes and Ears (E2) project to reinforce the legitimacy of the state and guarantee safety for communities in Gauteng.

With a primary focus on hostel raids, roadblocks, stop-and-searches in high-traffic areas, liquor compliance inspections and the detectives tracking down wanted suspects, simultaneous integrated operations were carried out throughout the province’s four districts of Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Johannesburg and West Rand.

During the operation, several suspects were detained for a variety of offences, including possession of stolen property, dealing and possession of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of dangerous weapons, and violation of the Immigration Act.

Rare metals were also found to be in the possession of some of the suspects.

Five establishments were shut down for non-compliance, and fines were handed out by law enforcement agencies for violations of the Liquor Act.

According to Mawela, such operations will continue to be carried out at random in an effort to disorient and disrupt criminals. He expressed his appreciation for the many stakeholders’ devotion and commitment to the battle against crime.
