WATCH: Chrisville pensioner still lives in fear after spate of burglaries

Inconsolable Momberg cried her heart out because of the burglaries.

The trauma that Chrisville pensioner Charlene Momberg (70) is suffering because of burglaries in her home is unbearable.

This former Laerskool Voorbrand teacher experienced about 10 incidents of burglary in four years. She believes people whom she knows target her.

During the most recent incident, they tried to open her car’s bonnet, which she locked with padlocks. They were trying to steal the battery.

When the Southern Courier visited her, she was in tears.

“What must I do? This is my house. I’m often seeking refuge from friends because I’m scared to sleep here, as I don’t know what they will do if they find me inside the house.

“They once entered my house via a chimney. The other time, they removed roof tiles to enter. This is scary for someone who lives alone. This is the home of hell and is supposed to be a happy place. Some of the cases I opened were closed without any arrests,” explained the inconsolable Momberg.

She had a calendar where she showed all recorded burglaries in her home. Two were in 2020, four in 2021, twice in 2022 and twice this year.

Momberg has installed security gates at each door of her Chrisville house and razor wire in the ceiling to curb these burglaries. However, she feels defeated as they always find another way to get in. Besides stealing home appliances and clothes, her fence and gate have been previously stolen.

Booysens SAPS communication officer Captain Lorraine van Emmerik said officers are investigating the case.
