Young duo launches children’s books

Young authors and siblings, Ndumiso (12) and Oyama Mashazi (8) recently launched their books in New Redruth on November 5.

Young intellects and siblings Ndumiso and Oyama Mashazi launched their children’s books during a double book launch on November 5 in New Redruth.

The duo developed their love for books at a young age when their mother, Thuli Mashazi, used to read them bedtime stories.

“It was funny that they wanted me to read the same stories every night. Ndumiso is doing Grade Six at Laerskool Delville. He speaks three languages, mainly IsiZulu, English and Afrikaans. He loves to participate in sports and has so far participated in cricket, high jump, long-distance running and rugby. He lives in Lambton, Germiston with his mother and sister,” she explained.

Ndumiso’s book is titled The Happy Sippy Cup and teaches a powerful lesson on self-acceptance. This is his first book and he aspires to write more in future.

“The books are available at R80 or R150 when you buy both titles. This book is for every kid who has battled with self-acceptance issues. Oyama is also at Laerskool Delville and does long-distance running and choir at school. She also loves to draw and write love letters to her mother. She also speaks three languages like her brother,” Mashazi said.

Her book is titled The Boy Who Loved Candy, and it is written for kids between the ages of three and eight years old and is meant to encourage the culture of healthy eating.
