Local karate instructor achieves senior dan grade

Heinrich Opperman, a karate practitioner and instructor, was awarded his yondan (fourth dan) at the SAJKA National Dan Gradings.

Dedicated karate instructor Heinrich Opperman was honoured with the prestigious Yondan (fourth dan) black belt at the SAJKA National Dan Grading ceremony earlier this year.

The SAJKA chief instructor, Johan le Grange, attended the event.

Having served as an assistant instructor at the Alberton and Bassonia JKA dojos, Opperman’s journey in martial arts began two decades ago when he was just 10 years old. His passion and dedication brought him to this milestone in his karate career.

Opperman’s karate journey began at the Bassonia JKA dojo. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, he honed his skills and developed a love for martial art. Over the years, he displayed commitment and proficiency, inspiring his fellow practitioners.

Karate runs deep in the Opperman family, with his daughter, Olivia, following in his footsteps. Now 10 years old, Olivia has diligently trained at the same club since she was seven and has an orange belt.

Opperman’s accomplishment set a great example for Olivia, showcasing the rewards of hard work and dedication.

At both the Alberton and Bassonia JKA dojos, practitioners of all ages and skill levels can learn and grow under the guidance of experienced instructors.

The dojos offer classes from Mondays to Thursdays, catering to various age groups and proficiency levels. For children aged four to seven, special Dinky classes introduce them to the fundamentals of karate in a fun and nurturing environment.

For those intrigued by martial arts and seeking to embark on their own journey, the Alberton and Bassonia JKA dojos extended a warm invitation. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or a curious beginner, there is a class for you.
