23 illegal immigrants found hiding in roof arrested in Alrode

Alberton SAPS is looking for a businessowner who allegedly hired 25 illegal immigrants after arresting 23 immigrants on March 10.

Alberton SAPS arrested 23 out of 25 alleged illegal immigrants on March 10, who works at one of the local companies in Alrode without legal papers to be in the country.

According to Alberton SAPS spokesperson, Manare Ramotshela, they received a tip-off.

“We work hand in hand with the local home affairs to check the immigrants’ legality to ensure that the information that was given to us was indeed accurate,” said Manare.

Upon the arrival of the law enforcers, the illegal immigrants climbed on top of the building to hide from SAPS.

“Our station commander became the man of action and led everything from the front. He climbed on top of the roof where the 23 immigrants were hiding and ensured that they were apprehended successfully,” said the Alberton SAPS spokesperson.

The owner of the company and two of the workers are still at large and the SAPS promised that he will be traced and detained under the Criminal Procedure Act.

Section 49 under the act states that the owner, lawful occupier, or person in charge of property on or in respect of which any person is found committing any offence, and any person authorised thereto by such owner, occupier, or person in charge, may without warrant arrest the person so found.

Manare said that the arrested individuals will be sent to their countries of birth. He thanked all the involved individuals.
