Ekurhuleni vaccinates almost 300 000 children to prevent spread of measles outbreak

The CoE asks parents to sign consent forms for their children to get measles vaccinations.

The measles vaccination campaign in Ekurhuleni is gaining traction, with almost 300 000 kids already vaccinated.

While the City works to reach its one million goal, the campaign is quickly moving to more isolated locations.

To prevent measles from spreading in the region, the City will use its mobile clinics to reach as many children as possible in remote locations.

According to Zweli Dlamini, the City spokesperson, the campaign started early last month, and the deadline was extended to the end of next month.

Measles, a contagious respiratory virus, causes a rash and symptoms similar to the flu. Parents are urged to sign the consent forms allowing medical professionals to immunise school-age children who meet the requirements.

“The City thanks all parents who co-operated with our health officials. We appeal to others to follow suit as we attempt to protect our little ones,” Zweli concluded.
