As young models battled it out, it was down to the top five, then the top three as the group of ladies were judged based on class, style and innovation. There was also loads of entertainment by local talent on the day.

The pageant saw 23 contestants taking part in both Miss Teens Turffontein 2022 and Miss Turffontein 2022 categories. The event was made possible by organisers Sandra Zezere, Siphokuhle Qayiso, Praise Ngoyi and Dave Ngcobo.

According to Zezere, they hosted this pageant because they would like to see a difference in Turffontein.

“What better way to do that than by making sure we give a voice to the young women living in the Turffontein area? Not only this, but we’re also looking for young women who already have a vision for how they want to change Turffontein. The core of the pageant is ensuring that young women no longer sit back and watch as social ills continue to plague Turffontein,” she said.

Zezere told the Southern Courier they believe in women’s empowerment and changing the world one step at a time. She said they are planning on making this an annual event.

She reassured she will do everything in her power to raise funds to secure proper school shoes for less fortunate learners.
