Parts of the South experiencing water shortages

Johannesburg Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.

Johannesburg Water released a statement on October 3 saying Rand Water network is severely strained due to high water demand and requested residents to reduce consumption.

Rand Water has advised that the bulk network is severely strained due to high water demand (usage) as well as the recent power trips at various plants. This has resulted in low levels within the network.

Johannesburg Water requests customers in lower lying areas to lower water usage to assist with the recovery of constrained systems.

The highly impacted systems at Johannesburg Water at this stage are as follows:

1. Soweto: Eagle Nest, Glenvista and Naturena reservoirs are at low levels.

2. Central systems: Crown Gardens reservoir is at critically low levels, however, pumps are reinstated to supply water to Crown Gardens tower.

South Hills tower is on bypass supply due to lower supply from Rand Water’s Meyer’s Hill reservoir.

Customers in higher-lying areas will experience low pressure or no water during this period.

Johannesburg Water requests customers reduce consumption, only using water for human and household needs, which will significantly assist in the recovery of the affected systems.

Alternate water supply is also being provided to other affected areas through stationary water tanks and mobile tankers.

Further updates will be provided to residents.

Customers should note level one water restrictions have been implemented from September 1 to March 31 next year.

Johannesburg Water believes everyone can play a role in saving water to meet current and future demands.
