Pikitup, the waste management company of the City of Johannesburg, reassures residents that the fire raging at the Ennerdale landfill site is receiving urgent attention.
Pikitup spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi said they have deployed a dozer, water tanker, compactor trucks and excavator and the Johannesburg Emergency Services is on-site to assist in efforts to extinguish the fire.
The fire extinguishing operations at the site also include wetting and placing topsoil on the landfill slopes.
The fire broke out on October 2. The cause of the fire has not been established yet.
Pikitup apologises to residents staying near the affected landfill site for the inconvenience caused and would like to assure residents that the fire will be extinguished soon.
