Five killed, one critical after police aircraft crashes at Rand Airport

A sixth person has been taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Five people were fatally injured this Tuesday afternoon after an aircraft crash at Germiston’s Rand Airport.

The accident happened around 14:30.

Colonel Athlenda Mathe Spokesperson to the Acting Police Commissioner,  sadly confirms that one of the South African Police Service (SAPS) fixed-wing aircraft crashed at the Rand Airport in Gauteng at 14:30 this afternoon.

“On board were five passengers and the pilot. All five passengers have sadly lost their lives. The pilot is critically injured and has been taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care,” said Mathe.

Authorities are on the scene to establish the cause of the accident.
